When a Slaad Spawn starts to teleport, if hit is engaged it will not take any leaving engagement attacks.

Chaos to the End- When a Slaad Spawn is destroyed, roll 4 attack dice. Roll defense for all figures adjacent to the space previously occupied by the Slaad Spawn.

Special Powers:
Clouded Mind Defense- Confused figures cannot attack a Shadow Hulk.

Confusing Gaze- Instead of taking a turn with a Shadow Hulk, you may
roll the 20-sided die. If the figure is a squad figure and you roll a
7 or higher place a blue Confused Marker on that figure's base. If the
figure is a hero figure and you roll a 16 or higher, place a Confused
Marker on that figure's base. Figures with confused markers on their
base roll two less defense dice. At the end of a round, remove all
Confused Markers.

I'm also working on some stats for Necrons in Heroscape. So if anyone reading this happens to play a Necron army in 40K, stay tuned.

Fantastic Abyssal Terrain on TerraGenesis

Abyssal Audience Hall

This was made very simply, except for the thrown, but looks simply fantastic. He uses a hard type of compact styrofoam, but you could probably use 3/4" polystyrene or foam board or whatever you call it. A genius technique he used to make a vein effect was he trailed hot glue over it and painted it. I will incorporate this technique into my next terrain project if possible.

In other news, my digital camera needs batteries so I probably won't have pics for a few days.

Gaming stuff I got for Xmas

I got a lot of game related stuff for Christmas. Here's a list:
D&D 4E Dungeon Master's Guide
D&D 4E Monster Manual II
A Dremel tool
Dungeons of Dread DDM Starter Set
Craftsman toolbox
A vice (pictured below with my war troll basecoated)
24 2 oz. acrylic paints
a brush set

With gift cards, I got:
preorder for Heroscape Master Set 3: Battle for the Underdark
27 DDM minis, which I forgot which ones I got so I'll tell you what they are when they get here.
8 3 inch Grecian wedding cake pillars
wooden nickels
more paint

Lava Base Tutorial

I finished my lava base for Brunak, here's a pic:

Step one: Glue sand to your base using PVA glue. I use Elmer's. Sorry no pic.
Step two: Basecoat the sand yellow.
Step three: Wetbrush orange onto sand. Wetbrushing is the same as drybrushing, only you use more paint, that way it does get into some of the cracks but not all. Sorry, no pic again.

Step four: Drybrush black onto your base. I actually used FolkArt Wrought Iron, but I'm sure black is fine. Make sure you can still see quite a bit of orange on your base.

When done it should look like the image at the top. I probably should add a little more black because as is it looks not very solid.

Oops! Have some updates

Sorry I didn't post for half a month, posting a blog no one reads is harder than you think. OK, I do have an advantage being the type of person that talks to themself but... Anyways, I have been painting even if I haven't been posting.

This is a basecoat of yellow for my new lava base. Its hard to tell in the pic but the base has sand on it. I will post a tutorial later for making lava bases.

Also undercoated some figures, 22 to be exact, with black. You can see 4 gnome knights, 4 goblins, a ninja, a dog agent thing, 6 elf archers, 3 anubian wolves, 3 warriors of ashra. I also base coated my D&D War Troll.

Some other thing I accomplished: Rebased a bunch of figures, started make a crater, started making a iron mesh fence.

Heroscape Helm's Deep Campaign

"It's done. You only need 1 ROTV, 1 FOTA, & 1 RTTFF to play it. It you have 4 sets of each, you will be able to build the entire board." -peteparkerh

You can download the campaign here: Download

He needs your help playtesting so off you go and make sure you give him your feedback. This is a truly awesome idea and one of inspiration. I can't wait for a Battle for Isengard Campaign!

Sir Rordric the Mercenary (0 point unit)

This is the DnD Human Sellsword mini from the DDM4E Starter Set. I'm considering taking the Mercenary's Loyalty Special Power off because all Mercenary units have it. I'm also not sur about giving it a general because mercenaries only follow a general for money or if the army is guaranteed to win.

Honorary Head Nod #1

I decided I'd, once a week, share some work in the miniatures world. This week I have a modified Omnicron Sniper by Soundwarp SG-1. You can find his other mods here: Soundwarp's Mods

I'm gonna try to do this every Thursday, so stay tuned!

Undead Cavalry Playtest

After I rebased my brothers 3 Nightmare Banshees from the Horrorclix line. We decided to playtest for Heroscape. I'll post a card sometime later. The first battle was between the Krav Maga Agents and the Undead Cavalry. In 2 turns, the KMA killed all three of the banshees and took no casualties. The second to fifth battle we put them at 75 points and challenged them against the Anubian Wolves. They went two-two and then we got bored so put them at 70 points. The whole time my Wolves were rolling I rolled 2-6 for Unleased Fury more than half a dozen times.

Bought 6 figures from my bro

I bought the Einar Imperium and the Obsidian Guards from my brother. I got them for a dollar a figure. I have some ideas for a paint job on the Obsidian Guards already. This now puts me at:
Utgar- 84
Einar- 28

Finished small rocks

I am being really lazy on the Town Project so I'll have finished right now are the four little rocks. The big rocks are coming soon though! I also have reorganized my painting station.

Other things since my last update:
- Tried out Soulsteader (HS-variant)
- Paint rock 24-hex tiles
- Repainted some Heroscape bases back to original brown color

Air Archon Heroscape Stats

I made some stats for my Air Archon Zephyrhaunt figure. Still needs to be playtested, then I'll make the card.

Aquilla
Elementar

Archon
Wild (may change based on playtesting)
Medium 6

Points (TBD)
Special Powers:
Cyclone Fling Special Attack- Range 3. Attack 3. When an Air Archon Zephyrhaunt attacks with its Cyclone Fling Special Attack, it may attack 2 additional times. It cannot attack the same figure more than once. If the Cyclone Fling Special Attack causes a wound, move the figure 2 spaces from the Air Archon. Figures may not move up more than 3 hexes high when pushed.

Flying

In order to make it feel like I'm playing the same unit, I created a conversion for DnD to Heroscape.

New Town Project

I decided to make some buildings but I also wanted to set a goal with that too. So my newest project is going to be to make a town similar to Draynor Village from Runescape. I logged in and wrote down the dimensions for all the buildings and took some other notes. By the time I'm finished I hope to have finished:
- 9x buildings (4x3x1, 7x4x1, 6x5x1, 7x5x1, 6x6x3, 8x5x1, 10x7x1)
- 11x trees (5x willow, 6x other)
- 8x rocks (4x small, 4x medium)
- 1x obelisk/shrine
- 4x market stalls
- 1x tower

I wish I could make more trees but that may overwhelm the map...

Ninjas!

Finally got around to posting these ninjas! Again an extremely easy repaint but a necessary one, the ninja on the left was painted white so I decided I would get rid of the shiny plastic look from the other two while I was at it.

These ninjas sculpts are great and look so much better without a shiny plastic look.

Cheap Village Tutorial

Found a great post by sergeant t which tells you how to make a whole wargaming village easy. Not to mention: its dirt cheap to make.

Tutorial Link

This is gonna have to go onto my to do list. Wouldn't it be great to have some village scenery for DnD and Heroscape!

Marro Squid

I painted this like a week ago. Its the DnD Roper from the Against the Giants set. I got the mini for my birthday and immediately knew I would paint it into a Marro someday. That someday was last week. All I did was put a black base coat on, then used Apple Barrel: Barn Red. Last I mixed white and FolkArt: Teddy Bear Tan for the top tan color.

I like how this one came out. Unfortunately, this is gonna use up my last DW9K base (the extra big one).

In other news, I cut the Balor off its base and stuck it on a 2 hex base. I also rebased 2 other DnD minis: the Yuan-Ti Swiftscale and Orc Raider.

Little Trolls

I painted these for my bro in exchange for a MegaBlocks dragon. They are trolls from the Battlegrounds: Crossbows & Catapults expansion. It came with four, but only two different sculpts. This was a simple one, but I procrastinated on it a lot. I plan on painting my new troll to match these guys...

Next up tomorrow: Marro Squid

Some new DnD minis

I got a pack of DnD minis on Wednesday. Only got 5 for $24, never buying an actual pack again... especially when I basically got a $15 value (actually pretty good for a blind purchase). I got:

Air Archon Zephyrhaunt
Balor
Doomdreamer
Slaad Spawn
War Troll

The air archon will go to Aquilla's elemental faction. The rest will go to Utgar. My favorite out of this whole pack and also the only nonrandom mini in the pack. It fits perfectly as a giant mutant kyrie for Utgar. Unfortunately, its also the one that needs to be rebased. This guy rides a 3 inch base. The one I was very unimpressed with was the troll. Even the studio paintjob is bad. I'm in the process of painting him right now. The other three are average, will paint those eventually...

In other news... I have been painting a lot lately but I'm gonna restrain myself to one a day, if that.

Some rocks

A couple of rocks that I found in my driveway, posed, and hot glued to a cardboard hex. Then I added sand. And then painted sand black and drybrushed on some FolkArt Medium Gray. Not much to it and will probably make some bigger ones and some small ones riding 1" square bases for my DnD scenes. I haven't tried completely repainting the whole rock yet... maybe next time.

Not much for this one and I'm getting used to using the "Add Image" tool so my pics don't take up the whole screen. Sorry for bad 2nd pic.

Marro Dusk NGS

Got around to repainting that NGS. This time with some gold armor. I also painted a set of the Marro Warriors, I'll post those sometime in the next couple days. I also put in the extra work to shrink these pics so they fit on the screen.

For now, see these pics of the new NGS:

I was looking for another excuse to use my gold paint. :p Just wait til I post the pics of my golden elementals.

Wookiees!!!... or gorillinators?

In Heroscape, one of my favorite armies to play are Agent armies. But... a common unit in a lot fo agent builds are the Gorillinators. The gorillinators are basically high advanced apes. Well because to be the actual figures would cost me a fortune, I had to find a sub for them. I found *drumroll* some cheap wookies at TrollandToad (http://www.trollandtoad.com/) and bought 3 multiples of 3 different sculpts. I got the Wookiee Scouts, Freedom Fighters, and Soldiers. They were extremely cheap ($.49 each), which is why I love TrollandToad. Here are some pics:

A group photo!

Soldier

Freedom Fighter

I got three of each of the figures in the pics and it only cost me $6.62 including shipping!

I am currently digging around for some Heroscape cards using the minis I bought. I already found a card for my Soldiers.

Painted a black and silver skeleton dude

Ok, the race known as the Marro from Heroscape have never really fascinated me. What did strike me was the sculpt of Ne-Gok-Sa, from RotV. It looked like they tried to make a skeleton knight with flesh for bones. Not only that, but it was extremely easy to prime and drybrush.

Some pics:
darkskeletonfront
blackskeletonside1
darkskeletonback
darkskeletonside2

I may do a set of Marro Warriors to look like him, but that would be just another to add to my to-do list...

Heroscape Agent Paints

I was looking for something to paint, and while looking through some boxes of minis, I noticed that I was missing one of the agents, which meant I had 1 full squad of three, and two extras. I decided it was a sign and they required a simple paint so I decided to start with the extras. If I didn't like I what painted, then I would scrap them and use the regular ones. However, as it turned out, I did like them so now I just have to paint the black agent. I have some pics of the first two in comparison with the old ones below. As you can see, the original ones (the shiny looking ones) had horrible paintjobs with no real painting techniques at all. I use these guys for all my sci-fi games plus my own rpg I've got cooking called DND2K (modern setting).

Faction Review: Japanese Dynasty

The units from the Japanese Dynasty are my favorites to play. This faction has been around from the very beginning with Rise of the Valkyrie. And most of them have one of the best power ever: Counter Strike. This power lets you attack when its not your turn. All you need to do is roll more shields than your opponent rolls skulls and they're gonna take a hit or two.

The Japanese Dynasty consists of the samurai, ashigaru, and ninjas. There is a total of 15 units. However, the main synergy in this army is with the ashigarus and the samurai. The ninjas with their low point cost are meant to be filler units and don't have any synergy with any faction. The two key units of the samurai army are Kato Katsuro and Hatamato Taro. Kato gives great Order Marker flexibility letting you activate any samurai or ashigaru unit within 6 sight spaces. Hatamato Taro boosts the Counter Strike ability greatly, giving them an equal chance to block as to roll a skull, the high defense of most samurai, this will make them a deadly force, and you don't even have to place Order Markers on them.

My favorite strategy with the Izumi Samurai using only units from RotV. Use the Izumis as bodyguards for the Krav Maga Agents and beef up their defense with Raelin. At that point, the Izumi Samurai have 7 (8 with height defense and can send most if not all squadies packing, and probably a few heroes, too. Your also guarded against ranged attack by the KMA, who now have 5 defense which just about guarantees Stealth Dodge. Use the Deathreavers as glyph grabbers.

A good sample army that has a few readily available figures as of 10/22/09 is
(The strategy is above):
Izumi Samurai- 60
Raelin (RotV)- 80
Kato Katsuro- 200
Krav Maga- 100
Deathreavers- 40
Marcu Esenwein- 20
Total- 500

I'd like it if someone who knows DDM and RPG more than me could possibly make stats for them. Contact me if you can or have.

Playing DDM on HS Hexes

I stumbled upon a great article for playing DDM on the hex tiles that come with Heroscape. These rules cover most, if not all, of the 4E DDM rules. Its a nice short article, here's a link: http://minis.wikispaces.com/DDM+on+Heroscape+Terrain

And if anyone happens to have any Heroscape stat conversions for any game (preferably DDM) you should E-mail me or just post it right here in my blog!

Game Review: Heroscape

My favorite game ever is Heroscape, aka the Battle of All Time. In Heroscape, you draft armies and factions from very diverse worlds and times. They even have a Marvel edition. In a single army you could have knights, aliens, and elves. This allows for someone to play in anyway you choose. The minis even come prepainted.

The main thing that pulls a lot of people into the game are the prepainted hexagon tiles. The tiles: 1)interlock. 2)stack. 3) come in different sizes (1 hex, 2 hex, 3 hex, 7 hex, and 24 hex).

To play the game is simple. You create armies based on a point total. Every unit has a point total. Each unit has 5 stats: life, move, range, attack, and defense. The game is split into rounds. At the beginning of a round, you place your Order Markers on your Army Cards. You and your opponent take turns one to another. Taking your 1, 2, and 3 turns. During a turn you can move and attack. You move as many spaces as your move. Your attack is equal to how many attack dice you roll. Generally, you go until all of your opponents units are destroyed.

For a demo of Heroscape, go here: http://www.hasbro.com/games/kid-games/heroscape/default.cfm?page=Inside/Demo

My Mini Collection

And what a mini collection it is! I have merely 209 minis. I am in the process of buying more and as a student I'm on a limited budget. I manage to get a bunch of minis every month or two. My collection is made up of Heroscape, DDM, Halo Actionclix, Digimon, Dreamblade, Star Wars, and WoW minis. I enjoy painting and modding minis.

With this blog, I intend to show some of my painted minis and write some game reviews on some games. I will also give some breakdowns on some unit factions and why I like to play them.
